Just an update to let you know that CAD files of various classical orders are available for FREE download (free registration) at GrandTradition.net. The newest addition is the Ionic order from the interior of the Temple of Apollo Epicurius at Bassae. Here's a partial elevation:

If anyone wants to contribute to the growing CAD file repository, please contact me off-list. Also, are there any suggestions for future classical orders and details? Your suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Kind regards,

The example here looks wrong to me. The capital on the Ionic order would be closer to 1/2 D in height. I have never seen the "scroll" on four sides (could be an unusual case.) The Architrave is typically about 5/5 D in height with aprx. 3/4 D Frieze under a 7/8 D cornice.

Did you check your proportions?[img][/img]

Of course!

The Ionic order to which you are referring is Roman in origin, and is also available for free download. Vignola, Gibbs, Palladio, and Vitruvius all had methods for drawing the Roman Ionic order. Currently, only Vignola's is available. Here's a partial elevation of the Roman Ionic:

The Ionic order at Bassae is Greek in origin, and has been used on the US Capitol, store fronts, and myriad other places. You should register and check them out! Let me know if you need any additional information.

Best regards,

Oh, and don't forget the Scamozzi Ionic capital, which has the same elevation on all four sides (volutes at 45 degree angles).

Cordially,

Usually overlooked and under-appreciated, the Greek Corinthian really gets at the heart of classicism, IMO, by embracing inventiveness within the context of Order:

And a detail:
