Gary,
Acrobat 6 Pro comes with Distiller 6. All X native. I haven't used Distiller much, just once or twice, and it seems to do all the tricks v5 did.
I've mainly been using Acrobat as a "filter" from PowerCADD to MS Word X. I have not been able to get Word to include high res. PDF's so Acrobat is good for converting a PowerCADD PDF (Print->Save as PDF) into the old favorite, EPSF.

Just curious. Is it worth upgrading to 6? I use Apple's built in a lot but the full version often comes in handy. If you own 6, or anyone else, is it worth the upgrade?

I've been using Acrobat 6 Professional since it came out. A great application! Appears in the Print and Page Setup dialogs as "Adobe PDF". Creates PDFs flawlessly. Distiller, while lurking somewhere in the background, really doesn't appear as a separate application.
Tastes great, less filling...
Worth the upgrade? Only you can know for sure. It was for me. |

Mike - I don't know how close a look you have taken but the X version of Distiller in Acrobat 6 most certainly is a separate application. Its right in the Acrobat folder in the Applications folder - check it out.
Gary, My only motivation for getting 6 was the X version of distiller, as I am trying to launch classic as little as possible. But as far as creating a press ready PDF file, you can do that just as well with Version 5. In fact, the press ready PDF files are identified as being 5 compatible. The reason I believe is that printing work flows upgrade slowly, so this is one area where they have to maintain the backwards compatibility while the industry catches up. _________________ --

Greg, that is my main motivation also. I have only gone into Distiller a few times but if you want to adjust quality and other attributes of the pdf output I thnk that is where it is done.
Thanks to all for your comments. Sounds like it is time for an upgrade. |

- Layer protect
our building office gives
structural drawings at Installateure, electrician, setter e.g. within
the company further and those would like that their Layer with
password to be protected could.
- shape tolerance / positional tolerance
machine-builders need an appropriate assistance around machine
parts to describe. Years ago it already gave such a function
in ClarisCad. |
