Gary,

Acrobat 6 Pro comes with Distiller 6. All X native. I haven't used Distiller much, just once or twice, and it seems to do all the tricks v5 did.

I've mainly been using Acrobat as a "filter" from PowerCADD to MS Word X. I have not been able to get Word to include high res. PDF's so Acrobat is good for converting a PowerCADD PDF (Print->Save as PDF) into the old favorite, EPSF.

Derek.

Just curious. Is it worth upgrading to 6? I use Apple's built in a lot but the full version often comes in handy. If you own 6, or anyone else, is it worth the upgrade?

I've been using Acrobat 6 Professional since it came out. A great application! Appears in the Print and Page Setup dialogs as "Adobe PDF". Creates PDFs flawlessly. Distiller, while lurking somewhere in the background, really doesn't appear as a separate application.

Tastes great, less filling...

Worth the upgrade? Only you can know for sure. It was for me.

Mike - I don't know how close a look you have taken but the X version of Distiller in Acrobat 6 most certainly is a separate application. Its right in the Acrobat folder in the Applications folder - check it out.

Gary, My only motivation for getting 6 was the X version of distiller, as I am trying to launch classic as little as possible. But as far as creating a press ready PDF file, you can do that just as well with Version 5. In fact, the press ready PDF files are identified as being 5 compatible. The reason I believe is that printing work flows upgrade slowly, so this is one area where they have to maintain the backwards compatibility while the industry catches up.

Greg, that is my main motivation also. I have only gone into Distiller a few times but if you want to adjust quality and other attributes of the pdf output I thnk that is where it is done.

Thanks to all for your comments. Sounds like it is time for an upgrade.
