Hi all,
Where can one find good instruction for importing textures into DW lite?
I'm working on a fireplace and have stone textures but have no idea how to go about getting them into the DW software. I'd also like to find oak textures to include in this model.

Thanks Gary,
Looks like there's plenty of info at the link you supplied. I was hoping for a no-brainer tutorial but haven't seen anything like that. I'll spend some more time later going through the info.
Anyone up for writing a simple walk through re. textures?
Thanks,
Dave

You have to import the textures to the "DW Material Prefs" file, which can be modified in a text editor. I don't know if is contained in the Lite edition. I have the DW Classis edition. How to modifie it: See the help file, it's very easy!!

I haven't used this feature in a long time, but I remember it not working well. I have a project that I want to put some textures/materials on and here is what I see.
DW Classic has a folder called 'accessories' in it are a bunch of .gif files.
There is a folder called 'Textures' that as I recall has to be in the same directory as the DW application.
The 'DW Material Prefs' file is supposed to self update when you drag and drop or save a .PICT file into the 'Textures' folder. I have converted several of the .gif files from the 'accessories' folder into .pict files and put them in the 'Textures' folder.
When the project window is open and I add a .pict file to the 'Textures' folder I get a request to used the updated information.
The new file names show up in the drop down list in the DW window but I get error messages saying that the pixmap file 'Wood-Light-Smooth' for material 'Wood-Light-Smooth' was not found in the Texture folder. However, the .pict file are in the Texture folder.
I'm working in Panther OS 10.3.3. Do I have to boot into OS 9?

Dear Rick,
DesignWorkshop should be able to render your custom textures in Mac OS X. Please send your pict files and DW Material Prefs file to support@artifice.com and we will try to figure out why it is not working.
We look forward to hearing from you.
Best wishes,
Mike Wheeler

Well I was getting around to sending the .pct file and my 'DW Material Prefs' file. When I decided to do an experiment. All of my models are made up of these thin boards. I made a big cube and applied a converted .pct file and I notice that it tiled an image just like what was in the original .gif. This image has a color block in the center of a white background. This is not an effective image for applying a texture in DW. And on my thin boards all you see is the background and it gives the impression that you just got a default no-color.
Why are all the materials provided in this shape with a background that doesn't tile well and in a format that has to be converted before DW can use it. Do the gifs provide some special uses that aren't documented.
Anyway it seems that after I cleared out all the non .pct files from the Textures folder I eliminated the instances where I was selecting image files that were causing DW to look for pixmap files and display that warning.
I have begun creating small patches of color with no boarders and saving them to the Textures folder. The seem to be working o.k. But getting the scale right is hard.
It also seems that in order for DW to be able to use a new texture file I have to force a refresh. I have to either go to the finder window and view the texture folder or close and open the window I'm working in or quit and restart DW. Different things seem to work at different times.
If I don't do some kind of refresh I can see the new texture file name but it is out of alphabetical order and doesn't apply.
