I will design such. I require $5,000 before starting such a venture. After I receive said payment I will consider evaluating a program and taking a look at a site plan, including buildings and sites around said site.

SDs will cost $10,000.
DDs and CDs will cost $30,000.

Also, you will need to sign a contract I will write up waiving all rights you may have to hold me responsible for the project, considering I will not be able to go to India to review the construction or do any construction administration.

Oh, and if you think this is ludicrous, consider not posting such criteria on an architectural forum and just call up some local architects in your area.

Hi!

The intention of posting it here is to get new ideas on construction. Your rates are surely ludicrous!! but posting here certainly got me mails by people who are interested in taking up the project!!.

wow, that was pretty rude misvit.

Why not look for an architect on a design forum? It seems completely appropriate to me. If I happened to live in Bangalore I would have responded (although for $45,000 I think I would fly over there Wink )

why be so sarcastic misvit ? You don't like people to hire architects over the internet. Why is this ? Do you think it is diminishing the value of the profession ? What is your reasoning behind such thinking ? What does the community think ? Should only local architects be hired for distance jobs, or is it reasonable to hire design professionals from a distance, in certain cases, and for certain types of design jobs ?

Hey, I was just including flight and etc in my costs. Maybe it did come across as rude, but maybe I previously had some naive notion that this site was for the discussion of architecture, but not an ad service. So it bugs me when I see ads for products, especially those not related to architecture. It bugs me when I see students post their thesis statements and ask for anyone to "give them advice" or in my terms, do their work for them. It also bugs me when people ask for an architect to design some building off in the distance somewhere without any real information about said project. But all those are just things that bug me and I guess they have their right to be on the site too.

On a side note, yes, I do think architects should design locally. Sometimes, unfortunately, there are no qualified architects for a project of such granduer or scope in your area. It takes expertise that not every firm has to for instance, design a skyscraper. However, I'm sure there are qualified architects to design a house in India who, because of locality and a way better understanding of culture, would be more suited for the job.

On another side note, thinking about the general % of payment on a project for architects (6% on large jobs to 10 and 12% on small jobs here at my firm) and imagining that I'd need to make at least two flights to india for 3 grand or so total, the rates are as already put, ludicrous.

Hi Geetanjali,

I would be interested in designing your house. I am an architect living in Mumbai working for around 8 years now. My native town being in Karnataka I am familiar with the architecture style there. Please do let me know if you are interested in my services.

Regards,
Swati

Dear Gitanjali,
I would be interested in taking up the challenge. I am an Architect based in Pune and have over a decade of experience in Architecture and Design.
I run my own design and build set up here.
My experience is in Bombay, Pune and mostly New York. If your requirement is still valid, I would love to discuss it with you.
Please respond so we can proceed.

Thanks and Regards,

Is this project still active? and if so, I'd be interested in discussing it further with you. I am a registered Architect in New York with Residential and Historic preservation experience and an interest in certain vernacular Indian building types.

Please feel free to post or email a response.

Best regards,

Anna
