I'm just starting to learn Revit, and this is a basic UI question, not earth shattering, but it severely affects my ability to use the interface efficiently and without swearing a lot.
The Options Bar, that pops up context sensitively, displays, with it's accompanying sub-options, stacked up on the side of the window, thereby shifting everything else down by whatever number of tool bars show up. This results in the drawing area shifting around whenever I choose a new command or in some cases, just select an entity in the drawing. If the Press and Drag option is enabled, entities are moved as I click them because of the window shift.
The Option Bar family are all locked in place, not movable as are the rest of the tool bars. The thing is, I just saw a tutorial where these ***** bars are well behaved and line up without causing this shifting around.
As I said, this is driving me bonkers... As I get more familiar with the software I'll have more important things to contribute, but for now if I could just control the UI enough to make my workflow easier I would be very pleased. |

Well, I figured out what was going on. As I mentioned, I bought this really nice hi res flat screen monitor for doing CAD work. I drive it from my laptop that has a lower resolution screen. If I have the laptop screen set as the primary Windows desktop screen, when Revit starts there, all is good on that screen, but it loses it's way when I bring it to the higher screen resolution. The fix is to set the large screen as the primary window.
As in many cases, this is not a fix, it's a workaround. Autodesk should have the programming skill to make this work.. Apparently not. Maybe some day they will take a look at all the other programs that work correctly and get a clue..
So, beware the large screen. It needs to own the show. |
