What are people doing to open old files that are no longer compatible with the newer versions of the program?
I have files from a project that are 16 years old and Pcadd 6 doesn't recognize them. I think the files are PowerDraw Version 3.0. I opened the file with text edit and I could read a reference to an ES copyright of 1984 to 1989.
I'm running OS 10.4 on an Intel Mac, which doesn't load Classic, and I doubt that even OS9 can open the PowerDraw version in which the files were created. _________________ Mac Pro, 9 Gig RAM,

| I am concerned about this issue, too. I plan to load my old versions of PowerCadd onto an old OS9 powerbook, which I'll keep tucked away in case I ever need it... |

One option is the legacy file translations service I offer that goes back to PowerDRAW v1.
No doubt that planning for legacy file access is also important. I have regularly kept copies of old software, and at least one machine capable of running it, handy for just that purpose. Just a few months back I had a boat load of Claris Resolve and WingZ spread sheet files that need to be brought forward ... now thats a trip in the way back machine |

One thing to try...
Do the files still have a valid PCadd/PDraw icon? If not, run ES's File Type and Creator fixer and try them again. If the icons are still valid then it might well be, at 16 year sold, they are in fact older and PDraw v6. |

I appreciate the tip about File Type and Creator, but it didn't work, I still get the message that Pcadd can't open that file. How much do you charge for your service?
Any chance that ES could build in translation for old drawing formats into an external? Even if the file could be opened as 'Read Only' or PDF it would be very helpful. _________________ Mac Pro, 9 Gig RAM,

Fee Schedule is here: Hourly and per file rates noted, lump sum quotes also available on high quantities. Other translation details noted on related pages.
