from my POV 2030 sets unrealistic goals 50% reduction of energy use by 2007?? _________________ The most necessary/useful piece of learning is that which unlearns what is untrue: 'evil'

Perhaps, but we in the Western World seem to be content with say 5% or some trivial value that will have no significant impact on global warming. Either we wake up and take drastic measures, or the planet is going down.
There is no other way out. |

So according to riversong (if I understand correctly) the new "conventional wisdom" says that spending 5-6% more on efficiency than todays minimum energy code will immediately result in an net equal or better between lower energy cost and the increased mortgage payment.
I agree with this, although some locations may already be requiring better than average efficiency.
We also have to consider that this is only taking into account todays energy costs. We can't foresee what energy will cost in the future but with current resistance to building more coal plants and requiring more pollution controls and the possibility of using more nuclear power it seems pretty likely that electricity cost will rise faster than inflation.
When you take this into account it seems likely that 5-6% is actually very conservative. Just my own layman's guess would be that 10% is probably easily feasible.
This probably shows that we need to adjust our national building codes to achieve the optimal balance between energy cost and mortgage payment because when we don't achieve this balance we are actually wasting money.
The hard question is -on what items is this extra 5-10% spent? _________________ Chris Stewart

Do you have any comment on what was posted, antisthenes?
I would like to hear more about what you had to say on your last posting.

Too much emphasis, as stated previously, is being place on existing building codes and construction methodologies.
We are content with too little.
This level of energy reduction cannot be argued as sufficient.
We need also to reduce our national consumption in many areas, to meet international agreements. Buildings and houses are only one area of concern within a much greater picture of energy consumption. |

This guy - Bird and Company is spamming all the forums trying to discourage those like us who have new ideas and visions.
He cannot seem to make any intelligent comments on our own posts except bomb and undermine all the technical posts with false claims, insults and childish games.
Why can't these guys leave other people alone? |

Nobody is making one penny on this forum except you Mr. Bird & Company.
Your accusations lack any foundation, or intended only to thwart the causes and ideas of some of the greatest minds in existence, obviously because you feel the authority and superiority of your supposed thinking is feeling a little challenged. So you would rather post absurd accusations then give reasonable responses to George and me on his propositions for a new structure of the future. |

| You are the one who requested the slaughter of intellectual thought. You are only getting what you requested. Get your sword and shield of intellectual thought ready for battle. Welcome to the journey. The battle has just begun and there will be no surrender of weapons of intellectual proposition. Your wasting criticism will not diminish or silence some of the greatest achievements in new architectural theory, in the linguistics of architectural thought, in the development of the idea of concept in architecture, in the studies on deconstruction architecture and in the propositions for the structures of the future, among many other architectural community areas benefiting. You cannot stand to have your intellect challenged by individuals who are growing in stature of intellectual achievement, so you would rather bomb all their technical posts with irrational accusations, acting like a community police and sticking you nose into issues you have no desire to discuss, but rather harass with ill founded accusations. |

In this website, I provide fairly decent detail about the building of our strawbale home in Arizona. Please let me know of any questions or input about the operational efficiencies or building techniques used.
Thanks
