I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this - let me know if not Very Happy

I'm looking for a piece of software that has the ability to import floor plans from various sources - preferably something that can accept scanned images. The key is that I'd like to be able to convert these floorplans into one consistent format, and preferably that would be as automated as possible.

Basically I'd like to be able to take floorplans from separate homes / developers and make them all look similar before presenting to my clients - i.e. something with a scale of 1in:1ft could be compared side-by-side with something that was originally 1in:3ft, and they would both appear visually similar.

I don't need anything fancy and a 2D floorplan will be fine, but I do need it to be fairly accurate. And the simpler to use the better - I'm not a design professional (as I'm sure you can tell by the question I'm asking).

Anyone have any suggestions that could accomplish all or part of what I'm looking to do?

Thanks!

I am not sure there is a product out there that will accomplish this task.

I agree that if you are presenting items to a client that consistency is very important. Most architectural firms have a book of office standards which are adapted from the industry graphic standards.

With all that said, my advice would be to hire a CAD operator to do freelance work. Most of the things you are saying wouldn't take much time at all to complete. I know I can take anything from a sketch to a CAD drawing and turn it into a consistent format without much ado. I use a couple different CAD programs to do this.

So to answer your question, is there a program that you can purchase that will take scans, sketches, jpgs, CAD and other sources and turn them into a presentable format? NO. If there was, a lot of us freelance designers would be in some trouble.

Makes sense. Thanks for the reply!

Do you know of somewhere I can find a listing/directory of people who might be able to do what I need? Or could you provide any more detail as to the type of skills that would be necessary? Or is it just pretty much anyone that can do CAD?

Thanks again for your help.

First of all, I run Studio Render Inc. which is a company I started in 2006 as a side business to my architectural career as a way to make more money. Now in 2009, the recession has hit, I have been laid off, and http://www.studio-render.com is my full-time business. If you would like a quote from me to do some quick 2d CAD work, I would be more than willing to help out. Take a look at my website and drop me an email or a call.

To my knowledge no one has ever created a directory of CAD people. With that said, myself and I am sure many other freelancers, can be found in forums all over the place. Make sure you find out where the freelancing is done from, some places overseas may charge next to nothing, but getting exactly what you want may not be as easy as the price.
