so as an arizona resident for 12 years at this point, i didnt think it would be possible for me to find a home off the grid that i would live in. im not into living in a canvas tent, and as much as a full supporter i am of the green movement, i need AC.
but heres one i would... and apparently the New York Times thinks so too...

There are lot's of homes off the grid, that are a "typical" home.
Note the house has a well for water and notes very little about the mech. and elect.
If you are interested in off the grid contact local contractors in your area.
Mechanical side look at the ground source heat pump system (using the ground under y'r feet).
Electrical side lots' of options from solar to wind etc. and if your able to you can sell the power back to the utilies co'
And for the A/C NEEED they have solar a/c units
Feel free to check out my web sites links pages for lot's of info/links in these areas noted _________________ ASMEIL Drawings and M&E Designs |
