Dear Designers, Builders, and Dwellers,
ArchWeek Residential brings you housing news and analysis weekly
from the editors of ArchitectureWeek.
Economic hopefulness is in the news again, and we're all for a spirit
of optimism.
Still, with the center-point of our optimism aimed clearly at our
readers' continued financial survival, it seems best to keep in mind
this week that the 'bounce back' referred to in the AIA Billings
Index only returns its value to the established slope of
_continuing_declines_ in architectural billings - therefore
predicting continuing future declines in architect-designed
construction. The more speculative dimension of inquiries for
architectural design services remains at a flat low level.

Looking much farther forward, regional planning directions in the
Chicago metropolitan area suggest increasing support for compact
housing types, according to the Chicago Tribune. What would it take
for your housing involvement to follow that kind of that market
direction?
