| Should be able to print via ip directly with generic postscript drivers. Or via samba and your print server. |

| Yup make sure you purge all the logi stuff. I try to run without 3rd party software as much as possible. Less can go wrong.. Logi usually has their uninstaller right on the installation cd. |

HGI,
I'm not sure where the earlier post you are referring to is, or what forum it is on. I can't find it in any event, so ignore this post if I am off-base.
But if I understand correctly, you were trying to discuss the exporting of dwg files from PCadd and opening them in ACAD.
I have parallels installed on my iMac along with windows XP Pro (of some intermediate vintage) and I have tried the ACAD 2010 LT demo, as well as a progecadd demo.
I don't want to use ACAD, but I can see some reasons for having that kind of program available on my computer: checking of exported drawings as you mention, but also correcting fonts, and issuing drawings that are referenced in world coordinates.
If you, or others, are interested in a thread about the parallel world (pun intended) then let's have at it. If your post was flagged in this forum, then I'm surprised.

A previous post I made was removed.
It's nowhere to be found.
I guess the administrator thought I was too far off topic?
Maybe he/she thought I was trying to give a plug (advertise) for AutoCAD?
I really don't know.
Anyway, I made the post above to try and better convey, why Parallels may be good for PowerCADD users, at least those that send files to AutoCAD folk.
And yeah Damon -- you hit it right on the head --- I was thinking about previewing fonts, amongst other things.
In a perfect world, there would never be a need to worry about any CAD file you send off --- no matter who you send it to --- no matter how it is to be viewed or printed. All export and import functions would work perfectly --- no matter what program you export from, or import to -- and, regardless of platform.
But this ain't that perfect world, so I tend to think that previewing the exported DWG (PC file), in the program used by the person you're sending the file to (AutoCAD in this case) ------ could be helpful. It could save you some back and forth ---- between you and an AutoCAD guy.
And using a Desktop (Parallels) that is approved for that program you need to export to (AutoCAD), is a good thing also.
And yeah, I was surprised when my original post on this subject was removed.

| huge font sizes aren't really a great idea, so if I need big printouts I'll generally do a drawing smaller and then use the page setup to print the document larger. But when you're dealing with letterforms at that size, generally the font metrics are designed for something else, and the forms will need a little tweaking. So Convert Outlines comes in very handy. The quality of work that goes into fonts can vary considerably. Also, I've found that when you're spacing lettering as large as that, you need finer control over the letter positions than is available with the text tools. |

Steve,
FYI, the administrator of this board is Artifice, not Engineered Software, and they do not have any ownership interest in PCADD (but were gracious enough to provide the board for us) so it is unlikely it was removed intentionally. Kevin does not censor posts - unless they are SPAM, illegal, - potential abuse -, etc.
At least the info is now posted.

Hi Gary,
In my original post (the one that was deleted), Kevin probably didn't take to my lame attempt at humor. I used a Star Wars term to refer to AutoCAD. I used the words DARK SIDE in place of AutoCAD. I said something along the lines of --- "for those of you that must interface with the Dark Side ..."
Like you say --- it's up and posted again in this revised version --- so no big thing.
On another subject ---- I saw in the news that you guys got dumped on up their in Bay Area last Tuesday. 4" in Oakland ?! Was the rain as bad as I read?
Thanks for the info,
Steve |

Please Note
This forum thread consists of stray postings which were scattered and dissociated as a result of some bad data that occurred in one of the forum database tables.
We are still in the process of reassigning correct authors and topics to these loose pieces of your ongoing conversations.
This is a fairly complex system made up of several dozen interacting mysql database tables. It currently holds literally tens of thousands of topics and literally millions of individual postings. If at times that isn't challenging enough, it also undergoes repeated heavy assaults by automated spam bots. In other words, it can get messy when something breaks.
Thanks for your patience. |
