Powercadd 6 w/ all latest updates beeps twice when I quit the program. I tried manually closing all of the windows prior to quitting and this does not seem to help. Any ideas? - it is pretty annoying.
I am running a DP867 G4 w/ 10.3.3

Thanks.

Could it be saying 'goodbye'?

[sorry, I could not resist].

Unless ES responds with a more intelligent response: every app does some house-keeping when it quits and PC is no exception. And these beeps are often indicating that something happened that wasn't expected but is more annoying than serious.

So, putting these things together, I wouldn't do anything as long as there are no other symptoms, such as files that open with incorrect permission notices.

Or I could be wrong.

Clara’s physic powers need some help so here are the questions.

Michael, are we to assume that you are not getting a beep on quit?

Patrick, if you start the application and simply quit without opening a file does it beep? What is the build number? What type of computer and what version of the operating system are you using?

Rob, would mind opening and simply quitting to see if there is a beep? Also please look at the build number since some people have downloaded and the dock alias still pointed to the old. Another simple test, which will isolate externals, is to run and quit without externals loading.

Beeps generally indicate some unusual and unexpected condition. The errors usually are not dangerous but they do need attention.

Maybe the answers will help to flush the gremlins. Thanks.

It doesn't beep when I simply open a file and quit. I am using PC6.1, build DD14, but have noticed this for a while. I am using a 1ghz 17" powerbook with OS10.3.3. (The same behavior occured with previous versions of OSX, but I can't remember how far back I noticed it.)

I'll try to pay attention to when it happens and report back....

Patrick,

With the new information it would appear that a file that causes the beeping might be needed. There appear to be many hundreds and maybe thousands of ways that a system beep could be called. I am looking at them as this is being written but don’t expect to find anything until we have a file.

Thanks.

I've had this problem as well for several versions back as well. I guess I'll try some of my files.

I had a similar problem (not in PowerCADD) and it turned out to be the permissions for the preference files of the application in OSX. They had become set to read only for me as the user.

The program the problem occurred in was an early beta of my PowerCADD Pref Utility and the beep stopped when I fixed the permissions.

It is a pretty easy thing to check for in the code and I'm guessing PowerCADD would catch this error if it occurred, but just in case, it might be worth looking at the permissions for all the preferences files.

Derek.
