Have been thinking on the alternate material to be used in low cost rural housing to make it a self helped house and finally got an idea as to use the Sugar can juice and the molasis to prepare block that can be laid one upon the other to make it a self helped housing. in this technique the Sugarcane juice is sun dried till its voulume is reduced to half and than the saw dust and rice husk is mixed to it, to make it an aqous paste and pour into a block reinfore with Sugar cane Molasis which is abundant in the village. This wil have a non erodable mud plaster on both the sides and also a bitumen cutback layer on the outer side to make it water proof. All these being very light in weight wil be very suitablefor Earth Quake prone zone.
Thus i request you to send your valuable suggestion on this topic to allow me make the necessary improvement in this proposed material.

I love the attempt to think outside of the box and invent new materials. I will of course respond with my critique of what possibly are all that's wrong with the idea but this in no way means I do not applaud the effort and encourage you and everyone else to continue to push for experimentation...

...that said, speaking of experimentation, you will have to build a small example, set it out in all conditions and see what happens. My theory is that you will have a multitude of issues, but the biggest problem I see is protecting these "blocks" from moisture. Once the sucrose contecnt gets wet, your blocks will begin to dissolve and lose it's shape and therefore make for potential collapse of the structure. I also question the sugar content and the attraction of insects. However, I know they use molasses and sand as mortar for bricks....some interesting mixes include limestone, ash, loam, manure...

Anyway, as a partition I don't think it would work and the true cost of a building is in the structure regardless (foundation, columns, beams, roof, etc). As a mortar it would work great but don't be surprised when the kids start to lick the sides of houses...

The modern adobe construction with mechanical tapped dirt mixed with a very small amount of Portland cement has proven very durable, inexpensive and earthquake safe.

Modern Pise Building:House building with compressed or rammed earth - A revelation for the Farmer and Settler-1923 : by karl & inez ellington, 105 page booklet, xerographic. It is amazing to realize that Ellington traveled all over Europe and the USA promoting the rammed earth method. He stipulates that each man or "settler" should take advantage of the soil beneath his feet and build a "cozy little home". Dozens of photos of houses in Norway, sweden, denmark, france, New Mexico & English cob. Covers walls with cross section diagrams showing construction methods, roof design, attachment. Gives recipes for finish coating walls - limewash and plasters. Black and white diagrams throughout. Inez Ellington was a woman who actively promoted rammed earth houses and the "country life". You get a real sense of life in the 1920s, a most charming booklet. (There is a photo of an odd earth block ram press which can only be described as a 'contraption'-levers and gears everywhere!)

SABS just got ICC-ES approval ESR-1638

that is an earthquake, fire and hurricane resistant building system.

i personally would rather be under light foam than heavy dirt if things got bad. and when i build with Adobe i would not use any cement because of cost and naturalism.
