I am not an expert in the standards for the mac interface, but I think the default button, the one that is emphasized and will respond to the enter key, is usually in the lower right. I just noticed that the edit dialog from the layer window is on the lower left. It got me thinking that the occasional problem I have with scale settings not sticking could be due to mindlessly clicking the cancel button on the lower right. Sort of like the Audi acceleration fiasco - people slamming on the accelerator instead of the brakes. _________________ --

interesting comment. I like to watch for these small UI issues and missed this one.
Certainly you are correct that the lower right is a desireable layout location, as any perusal through a magazine or newspaper will attest. Sometimes you see reversal for emphasis- as, for example, when clicking through an EULA or something.
You also see this reversal in situations where you cannot do the normal 'double-check' before executing an undoable.
Neither applies here, though, and I am guessing that this is a fine point that simply slipped by.

After making this post however I was very conscious of my use of the edit dialog, and I still found it not accepting my scale until the second try. Ah well, its worthy of note at least. _________________ --

I hope this question is consistent with the theme of this thread:
Is anyone else having trouble grabbing layer names and moving them up or down? It's always been tricky- at least for me- but I canNOT get the cursor to change and then grab the layer name.
I am wondering if this is something that others are experiencing or something goofy here?
There must be a way...

Michael,
The Layer Window doesn't really know that your cursor is on a layer name until you actually mouse down. Try this, mouse down on layer name, pause for a second and then drag. Should work every time given the pause after mouse down.

that's the part I was missing: pause AFTER you mousedown but BEFORE you move the mouse.
Thanks.
[I guess there's a reason for the pause but it's a little confusing].

What Mike describes is right of course, but I think the difference is that in the old version the cursor would change to the "move layer" cursor before you started dragging - in the new version it does not change until you start to drag. The stumper is always, have I waited long enough to start dragging. _________________ --

I have found that clicking on a Layer name, then dragging horizontally a bit will accelerate the appearance of the "drag layer" symbol and capability...
