October 17, 2007, VirtualGrid Company announces the availability of VRMesh v4.0, a free-form 3d mesh modeler for arbitrary triangle meshing. The release contains many new features that allow designers to streamline the process of complete reverse modeling, rapid prototyping, fast design from sketch, as well as preparing models for use in downstream CAD/CAM.
For the reverse modeling workflow, most notable are the point cloud-processing module, and the Level-of-Detail (LOD) display. The first module provides a complete solution to edit point clouds, such as smoothing, decimation, split, merge, etc.; the second module offers an ability to handle very large data sets by using LOD models to save physical memory and speed up processing.
For rapid prototyping, new mesh editing commands, e.g., glue two objects, stitch object into watertight and remove stuffed regions, can quickly and automatically combine multiple objects into one watertight object.
For conceptual design, some new features, such as stamp texture, scratch brush, tail brush, and deform by widget, combining with the existed digital clay tools and smart form commands, can let users model any shape they can imagine from sketch quickly and easily.
Meanwhile, many features are enhanced, e.g., the global registration command is speeded up; the point cloud to mesh command increases meshing quality; the remesh smoothing command has an ability to preserve important surface features like sharp edges and corners while removing the noises; and the brush commands in digital clay are speeded up to respond the interaction real-timely.
VRMesh family consists of three packages targeted to different customers:
