You could just use the camera selection tool in wildtools and cut and paste that portion into a new sheet that is the size you want to print. When you go to paste, the image will catch things that will project beyond the portion you want to print, but if those hang off the page, who cares.

Or you could scale the drawing size to the size you want and move the whole drawing below, but I think it is easier to use the camera selection tool and create a new image that you can trash, rather than mess with the original drawing.

Another option which I use quite often is to have a rectangle on a "non-print" layer, place it over the area you want to print and choose "Selection" under the "Print Area" of the Print dialog box.

If you create a rectangle which exactly fits on the size sheet you want to print on, it works great! I use it for pulling out details all the time.

I've been doing what Greg described as well. I've made a rectangle the size of the printable area of the paper and put it on a layer in back, and put a title block on a layer in front. Select just the "paper space" rectangle (so to speak) and do "Print Selection" from the file menu.

I do the same too. When I was sharing this method with colleagues, I discovered a misunderstanding about the "Print Selection" print option. Everyone was under the impression that "Print Selection" meant "print the object selected". The name should be changed to something like "Print Area enclosed by Selection".

The method stated is the only time I ever use this option, and it's a bit annoying having an enclosing box printed as well. I suppose the box could be created on a non-printing layer or temporarily made invisible, but I think a more intuitive way could be developed:

Idea Create a new PowerCADD object called a Print Leaf. This would display as a box which would be the size of the printable area of the drawing sheet. A menu item called "Create Print Leaf…" could read the current printer and automatically create a portrait or landscape object. It could be moved around or locked in place, but the object itself would not print.
To print the page, you could select the Leaf object and then use a new "Print Leaf…" command in the File menu.

Where you have a border--I've just been using the border in a group as a print area. Position at the correct area of the page. Add points to make the border set correctly in the printer margins. Add masks (white no line rectangles) so the drawing does not run over border edges or the title (keep these separate from your "print area" border).

this can also be done with a group of points if you don't want a border (or a super light line rectangle).

On some setups I only have to show all layers and click (to make sure nothing is selected), select the different borders, and then use sheet setups and use copyCat to print sets of whatever is in the file.

I often select just two points to define diagonally opposite corners of the print area. No rectangles, no non-printing layers.

Print Leaves could be linked to a sheet setup. So using Copy Cat or not you'd be printing the same whenever you chose the sheet. You'd want more than one. I know it's sounds like complication, but it'd be great if a file could be printed by sheets (copyCat) and automatically have the print areas utilized. Basically it's going towards the ACAD way, but useful.

but then you'd want Leaves to use on the fly... further complication.

Yeah, I like that better than a white rectangle in the background. The rectangle makes the end results easy to visualize, but becomes a problem for making selections sometimes.
