Good evening, all. I am really happy to have begun using PowerCadd, especially with my new gear. I love the big monitor. It's rather interesting, the change from manual drafting over to Powercadd. It is so much less of a chore, and I would liken it to almost a video game.

That much said, my eyeballs have taken a beating. This morning when I woke up, my eyes felt like I slept face down at the beach wearing a pair of lid-locks straight out of a Clockwork Orange. I don't wear glasses or contacts, and I sit approximately 24" to 30" from the screen. I am trying it tonight with the brightness of the screen at about half strength which seems to be making a difference.

Any other ideas? I have made it to my mid-thirties with out the need for corrective lenses, and I don't want to cause any injury to my eyes.

Cheers -MP

I find it helpful to have other sources of illumination in the room and to be sure to take my eyes off the screen for a few seconds every minute or so.

If I find myself working in a darkened room, my eyes bother me much more quickly. I expect that if I had a 30" monitor, I'd need to take extra care to avoid fatigue.

I agree with the bright light concept. While I absolutely refuse to believe I get older each year, I can't persuade all parts of my body to go along with that. It's pretty basic that if you have a bright light, then the iris of your eye contracts and this acts like a 'pin-hole lens' to focus things. It's the same reason it's a good idea to have a bright reading light.

You might also check the brightness of your monitor. Maybe some people like to turn the brightness down, but I don't. We once had gray tool palette icons in PowerCADD and I was a passionate and perhaps sometimes obnoxious critic of these. The most readable page is a white page with black ink, and if you use grey paper, then it's harder to read.

run the highest refresh rate you can as well. even if you can't see the flicker, it makes a difference
