We have a centralized ProjectWise configuration, but a decentralized user base throughout several plants. I have been exploring using File Transfer Server and File caching. Is there any appliance that would speed up file access (and other TCP traffic) across the WAN?

If anyone has had any experiences, please share?

We have just run a live test with Riverbeds’ Steelhead appliances between two of our locations, and the initial runs look very promising. We saw significant speed improvements, even with PW file caching enabled.

Is there anyone out there actually using ProjectWise and Riverbed products and receiving bandwidth benefits?

We are looking at a large multi-country implementation and need something to improve file / cache transfer.

Most EDMS systems do not expose the storage location that most WAN accelerators need to know in order to pre-cache files. This disconnect from the real storage location is what the industry calls a "true vault" EDMS.

You can't speed up a TCP packet. You can compress it or get a fatter pipe. You must consult a networking expert analyst.
