On a residence in Georgia with a sloping roof, we need to place a gutter at the end of the eave. On commercial projects in my experience we had to keep the highest point of the projecting end of the eave at least 1" below the imaginary line projected from the sloping surface of the roof. I recall that in the past I had to do this, but it was in the NE, with snow and ice, and the reason it was needed was to keep water from forcing its way into the building when there was ice and snow on the roof and the warmth of the interior could create a layer of water (melted ice) inside the ice.
In Georgia (very little ice and snow), on a residence, what is the reason for keeping the gutter under that imaginary line, and is it needed? |
