just installed powercadd 8 and the first problem I had was with the "Zoom Window" command.

Instead of giving me the opportunity to draw a window to zoom to, this command immediately collapses the entire drawing window to about 150x50 pixels in size. Repeating the command returns the window to its previous size. This is clearly a bug. Anyone else encounter this? Anyone know a fix?

I use this command extensively and would very much like to get it back to how it worked in PC7.

*Also, I am no longer able to use the 'option+command' short-cut for this -- the command preferences seem to require at least one number or letter key! (not two function keys). Is this something PC8 has implemented? or another bug?

By Zoom Window command I presume you mean View menu > Zoom In Command (menu item)

In PowerCADD 7 (PCD7) - choosing View menu > Zoom In produced a magnifying glass icon, you then performed a mouse click to specify the center of the zoom in operation of about 200%.

In PCD8, choosing View menu > Zoom In will automatically zoom in the same percentage as PCD7 but automatically about the center of the window. The drawing window itself doesn't collapse -- at least not here in PCD8 and OS X Leopard.

If that isn't the command you're using, please advise which one/the steps so we can try and isolate what's going on.

I can't speak as to why the behavior changed for the Zoom In menu item from PCD7 to PCD8 as I simply don't know. However there are numerous methods of zooming including the mouse scroll wheel, pressing 1 - 2- 3 keys, and the zoom tool. In the case you're describing, if the behavior of the zoom in menu item isn't fitting your workflow, maybe using the Zoom Tool or trying the 1-2-3- keys will be a better fit?

PowerCADD has never offered a zooming method of pressing Option+Command to zoom in. That is a WildTOOLs, Zoomer, feature and isn't available unless the third party WildTOOLs externals are purchased and loaded. As of the date of this message it's my understanding those PowerCADD Externals are not yet available which would explain why you can't use that feature.

I hope that helps
Brian

PS: By the way, I see this is your first post. Referring to you as 'number6' seems a bit obscure and unfriendly. While I can't speak for others, I find it easier to communicate with folks I know; care to share a name as a way of saying hello? Smile

I don't believe I'm familiar with the Number 6?

Is this a vague reference to "The Prisoner" or "Battlestar Galactica"?

I must be older than you, Chris. The whole line is actually a reference to the movie "Blazing Saddles". Although your references would also have been good, I just didn't think of them.

Zoom Window is a command that appears only in Preferences/Commands. Why it's only there is a mystery to me. You assign it a keystroke and then it is available.

In previous versions it worked like the green button in the upper left of all windows in OS X -- to toggle between full screen and the current window size/position. This can be very useful when you want see other windows and the keystroke makes it really convenient to use, much more convenient than clicking on the green button.

Some of us (like me!) enjoyed using this command until it started to demonstrate the useless behavior described by Mr. 6 at the beginning of this post. However in my experience that behavior is not consistent. sometimes it works as expected, sometimes wrongly. Whatever...the bad behavior has turned me totally away from using Zoom Window and I feel quite a bit of remorse about it. I can only assume that it would be fixed were it not for some OS issue. Someone from ES could set us straight on that.

Zoom WIndow (Prefs, COmmand, Misc) toggles between the last size of the window and full size (clicking the green button). It's working as expected for me in PCD8 hence the reason I suspected it what the change in behavior of the View menu - Zoom item.

Not something I use regularly since I just prefer clicking the button but it seems like it works the same in OS X Leopard for 6, 7 and 8 of PCD. I wonder if the behavior folks are seeing as different is something Apple changed with respect to how the green button behaves for switching between window sizes? It did change with some versions of the OS but is one of those things I confess to not having kept close track to.

you guys are all way off on the name, but I enjoy the guesswork!

I think I just got my 'zooms' mixed up after all.
I must have mistaken the WildTools 'zoomer'(?) (as 'huc' had mentioned) with the 'zoom window' command. It appears that PC8 is really just missing Wild Tools.... and not buggy after-all.

Just remembered not having a 'status' palette with the oh-so-useful 'nudge' input box, scale, and layers indication! Is this part of WildTools as well? Or do I just have to keep searching in PC8?

Well, I can't contibute to the "meat" of this thread, and, it is unlikely the true meaning of the handle Number6 will ever be revealed. Nevertherless, i thought I might contribute this link form UpFront.eZine

Hi:

I looked at the article at caddpower and it says that all of the zoom methods were still available... I can't seem to find where I can enter a zoom percentage.

Thanks

see screen shot below
notes that the zoom percentage feature was deleted and not replaced

a typo in that it should say all 'other' methods are still available

I consider the ability to stipulate a zoom percentage a necessity, and I'm looking forward to the day it is restored to PowerCADD.

I don't use the zoom percentage, but I can see how others might and I'd second (or third, or fourth, or...) adding it back in...

I would like to see an option to have it shown as well.

I use it often to have a look at the drawing at "actual size" to give me a check on the amount of detail I am drawing.
