I just recently upgraded to Version 8 and have a question about the Move Point function.
Once I figured out why my command key for Move Points wasn't working anymore (the function was moved from the menus to a tool icon), I've experienced a behavior that's different from before and was wondering if this is normal and what others think about it.
Previously, after you selected the area that you want to move, if you clicked and dragged on a line, the points would move in a direction normal to the line you clicked on, or if you clicked in open space, they would move in any constrained direction. Pressing the Space bar would free the constraints. Now, the points move in any direction no matter where you click, and you have to press the Space bar in order to constrain the movement.
Maybe I'm wrong, and I would appreciate your input if I am, but it seems to me that you should need extra steps (ie, pressing the Space Bar) for more rare conditions. I've never wanted to move points in a free form fashion. I've always wanted to move them in relation to one of the lines in the encompassed area. So now I have to take an extra step in order to make the tool behave in the manner that I consider the most common. That doesn't look like an improvement to the user interface, in my opinion.
So I wanted to know first, is this the way the tool behaves for everyone else, and if it is, what do you think about this change. To clarify, I upgraded from Ver 6 to Ver 8, so this may not be a change from the way the tool behaved in Version 7.

option+click the tool and set the behavior to constrained as you prefer in the dialog that pops up.

I don't see any option dots on that tool, and the option click does nothing. Are you able to do this on your program? Is there a Wildtools version of this tool that you're referring to? I couldn't find one if there is.

I was referring to the WildTools move points tool. I confess, because I have WildTools I've never seen or used any other move points tool in PowerCADD.

| have you been able to use the WT move points tool across dimension strings? It always flips the dimension text upside down, changes the dimension to some weird number, and flips one of the ticks oposite of the other. Other than that, its in my top ten most used tools. |

I just found the Wildtools Move Points tool and tried it. I don't think it's as useful as the ES tool. With Wildtools, you only have the choice of constrained or free. With the ES tool, if you click on a line and then press the Shift key, the points will move normal to that line even though the line may not be on one of the constrained angles. The Wildtools Move points doesn't appear to respond to clicking on a line.

If you're not aware of it, a feature of the Wildtools move points tool I find very useful is:
You can press option after selecting what you want to move and invoke the Wildtools linear move tool-- i.e. you get the pickle-fork curser and can pick a line, which will move the selection the length and direction of the line. |

I can get the ES Move Points tool to behave the way it did before. My complaint is that I need to take the extra step of pressing the Shift key for the behavior that should be primary, as it was in Ver 6.

To me the WT move points tool is way beyond the ES tool. I can't but think you've not given it a chance. It works with snaps such as perpendicular, it can work on selected only, you get the points feedback, it can take keyed input distances. It's a "tool" instead of menu item as it should be. It ignores locked objects instead of interrupting with a (confusing) dialog. You can option click a line (useful with multiple fixes of the same sort in a drawing). The polygon points selection is better than lasso IMHO. However WT MP NEVER worked well to move dimension lines but is OK in stretching in the dimension direction. In v. 6 at least, ES move points cannot even take keyed input, which is what I use most.
(still on 6. I think PC may have evolved away from how I work; the recent discussion has made me appreciate how much I use the status window)
Just hoping to offer a solution.

Peter,
Thanks. The problem with dimension lines has been fixed for years now, but that doesn't help you if you're still on an older version.
And there are even more things built into this tool now.
