Is their a guide book or rule of thumb, to the size a room should be. For example if your house is 7,500 SF, your kitchen should be ___?____ SF.

If their is not a guide book, I would love to hear some opnions on room sizes. My house is about 7500 SF finished. What would people expect for a room size for a Master bathroom? Master Closet? Kitchen?

Thanks

Holli

Hi Hollibug
Welcome to the forum.

I do not know of any guide books which stipulate room size for larger houses.
However, there are plenty of pre-drawn plans accessible on the internet which can give you an idea of what has been designed before.

Just look for other homes in the 7500 sq ft range, and you should find plenty of good examples.

The size of the rooms is not determined by the size of the house, your life style determines what your need or prefer.

We have designed three bedroom homes with one car garage in as little 1200 squre feet.

We have designed homes with two master bedrooms (suites), five car garages, commercial kitchen and 5000 square feet ball room, it had nooks and kitchennetts for the buttler's use.

Best thing, visit a kitchen cabinet and appliance supplier and see what is in fashion and they will design your kitchen space, some times for free.

We should decide on room sizes based on our needs, this also applies to house size. We should not base our house size by the need to "keep up" with others. America is facing several challenges these days. One of the biggest among them is energy independence and reduction in consumption of fossil fuels.

Thanks for the ideas, I spent several hours looking at floor plans.

There are also minimum room sizes per code.
