Here are some snippets from an email from EngSW as part of the update to PowerCADD 8.1.1

Quote:

changes for 8.1.0:
... snippet...Comments: PowerCADD version 6 and 7 are not supported under Operating System 10.6

changes for 8.1.1:
...snippte... (12) A change was made to accommodate a known 10.6.0 problem.

I have PCD 8.1.1 installed but am still waiting for my copy of Snow Leopard to arrive from Apple so I've not done any first hand testing.

I use Panorama for a database program, and it's a PPC program only. There's been some discussion in the Panorama mail-list about it running under Snow Leopard, which is Intel-only. The answer is that it will run fine if you install the optional Rosetta, which I didn't know about.

I just wanted to mention this as an option for anyone still running PC7 on an Intel machine (without commenting on the wisdom of doing that!)

There are sites with compatibility information:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3258
http://snowleopard.wikidot.com/

Nothing yet about PowerCADD.

I note that the Apple site says known incompatible software will be, in effect, quarantined.

Rosetta has been a part of OS X since Intel chips. It's the software that lets PPC code run on Intel. With Snow Leopard it appears they are making it an optional install. As I understand how it works, in a very limited way, it, Rosetta, is a drag on the overall system.

Some members of our local Mac Users Group posted messages about Rosetta. It appears that if you don't install it and the OS runs into an application that needs it, it will ask you if you want to download and install it. When I install SL, that's the route I plan to go -- I won't install Rosetta and will wait until the OS tells me that I need it.

It looks like Acrobat Pro v.8 will not work to print pdf's in Snow Leopard, and looking at the Adobe forums it seems like upgrading to v.9 there are still some issues.

I thought I saw your name in the Panorama list serve. (I wish they'd do a real bulletin board, though) I've been using it since OverVUE 2.0 in 1985.

Where is this optional Rosetta? On the install disks or somewhere else?

Installed Snow Leopard a couple days ago. Things seem to be fine... for now, although those are famous last words. The only problem to date is that Suitcase doesn't work properly, so my fonts are screwed up... but they promise an update in 30 days.

Rosetta will need to be installed if you have an older printer(32 bit). Epson has new drivers for most but HP does not( 10.4-10.5 only). Also you must turn your computer OFF not just restart after you install.

Installed a few days ago. All seems well. Everything seems snappy and quick.

I installed Snow Leopard last week. All was OK until I tried to print something. I have three older HP printers, 2250tn, 4MV and 755CM. No joy. Apple says they no longer support printers that used Appletalk over ethernet. They had me call HP which led no where as I knew it would.
They also cautioned me that it would not be easy to go back to Leopard.
Wow. Hope this saves some of you heartache. Be careful about going to Snow Leopard!
Has anyone gotten this to work?
