It would be nice if the 3D Tilt tool could have some repeat/duplicate variations like the 3D rotate tool
Another feature could be 3D extrusion of complete figures rather than segment by segment (with hidden line removal)
3D tilting produces strange results :

There isn't any problem doing that. The question that comes up is how often people do that sort of thing, and then you get into the question of the desirability of a very simple tool vs one that can do many things.
There are a lot of types of transformations that we can do, for example, we could wrap an image in a spiral around the inside of a tube in perspective, but the question is how many people need to do that?
On the error you spot, yep, it's there. I've been meaning to revisit the 3D Tilt Tool because after I did the Perspective Tilt Tool, I realized there was a simpler method of doing the transformation. If you're curious, what you see in the 3D Tilt Tool is a combination of scaling and shearing, while in the Perspective Tilt Tool, points 'on a wall' are run up to the 'ceiling', then rotated in the plane of the 'ceiling' and then dropped back down into the 'room'. Got that?

Alfred,
Building a cube by rotating 90° a copy of a face will never be the same as wrapping an image in a spiral around the inside of a tube in perspective.
I suggested the feature when I realised the rotation tool would only work if all vertexes of the figure to be rotaded were on the reference plan (it doesn't work if all vertexes are on a plan perpendicular to the ref plan)
Is there a way I can do that in perspective? In an axonometry I can unshear a copy and shear it again changing the reference plan.
For now tilting a duplicate is the only way I found. I'll keep searching.

I always think in terms of taking an orthogonal image and then shearing it for each side of the cube. I think that's the best approach.
The 3D Tilt tool came about because of a few requests to be able to take a view and then rotate it axially a certain amount, for a sloped roof or a tilted keyboard.
Say, when do we get to see some of your drawings in the Drawing Room?

Alfred,
The 3D Offset Point Tool doesn't take the 3D scale into account if "scaled" is checked in the 3D setup. (compared with the 3D Construction Point Tool)
PS: I'd love to submit a drawing. All my 3D drawings are 30/60 military projections produced in Archicad. I'd rely on PC to add details, colours...
Coming soon. In the meantime I'm learning PC tool by tool. Great piece of software, thanks. |

Correct on the 3D Offset Point tool. I was hoping you wouldn't notice that!
I remember that when I hooked all this stuff up, there were a few situations where I ran into an obstacle I couldn't get over. I know this is one of them. I'll take a second look.

Actually, in checking it, the 3D Offset Point tool is behaving properly, but the 3D Construction Point tool is the one with the error.
Now fixed.
