Maybe try an app like Filetyper and get the file attributes back to PowerCadd's. The drastic file size change is disturbing so I would try it on a copy of the file.

ES may be able to help tomorrow if this does not work or no one else has any thoughts. Mike Cleveland may be able to work his magic.

Crying or Very sad
it has happened again, appears as if during a work session PC thinks the WIBU key is not attached switches to demo mode and deletes the file

Make sure you have installed the latest WIBU key driver. We had major problems with loss of data before we updated to version 3.31C for OSX. Prior to that we had to do a Save As every twenty minutes to let us recover if the Trash Can icon arose.

bummer when anybody loses data, it hurts just to hear the stories. But when I hear about people saving less often then ten minutes, it makes me very uncomfortable. Save! how hard can it be? I use save as my method of exiting groups, I save a lot a lot a lot. I don't want to waste my time doing anything twice.

Actually, I prefer to "Save As" a lot alot alot. Even without a glitch causing deletion or corruption (which I have not had), the biggest impediment to productivity is me when I change something I want "back". Save As with a suffix is the only method I know to go "backwards".

And it works - Bo

Confused
thanks for all your comments 'save as ' is certainly the only way to protect against this sort of problem. we always saved every few minutes but will now save as. problem is still occuring, eng sw havent had any feedback re key problems and we are on v4.0 of the driver. we suspect a faulty key , will post our summation when we come to a conclusion, thank again

If you are a WIBU key user beware PC6 can be evil.
If during a work session the key loses power or is removed when you go to save, two dialogs appear relating to key validation having failed and the various formats that PC can save to.
upon closing the file PC will completely trash the whole file leaving a 4k file with a trash basket icon
beware !! use the save as option as suggested by others

Had same problems several times, this thread: http://www.designcommunity.com/powercadd/31937.html was helpful for me.

Still this shouldn’t be this way.

If the "WIBU key has failed" message comes up you can rescue data before you quit Powercadd by switching on drag-and-drop (assuming everybody has it switched off) and dragging objects layer by layer onto the desktop to create a series of clippings. These can subsequently be dragged back into Powercadd after relaunch to recreate the drawing. Creating an identical reference point or object on each layer makes this easier. Slow and cumbersome but better than nothing.
